Sun Dance
Oil on Canvas
Original Painting

Size: 92 cm x 72 cm (36 inches x28 inches)

Description: This landscape painting was inspired by the glow of the September sun through my studio’s large windows. It transported my imagination to a place of warmth, hot colours and the dancing of the sun’s light.

About the Artist:

Originally from Wales, I have lived and worked in Kent for several years. Prior to that I lived in Bristol for three years so I am delighted to have been given another opportunity by Gallery DU 808 to exhibit my art in a city which has so many happy memories for me.

I painted for the first time as an adult in November 2015. Initially I used acrylics but the results lacked the vibrancy and texture that I craved. Consequently, I decided to give oils a whirl ~ I love them! My paintings are now alive with texture and vivid colours, creating a sense of other-worldliness and secret places. I have also recently begun to experiment with watercolours which I am enjoying hugely.

I am entirely self-taught as I prefer to figure out the necessary techniques for myself – For me, that’s part of the fun! My imagination is inspired by the Welsh and Kentish scenery that has surrounded me for most of my life and I love creating paintings that both capture and evoke the mood and emotion that the landscapes’ drama and beauty has instilled in me. The tension between the figurative and abstract that underpins my work reinforces the sense of half-remembered places. I have been told by visitors to my studio and exhibitions that they feel as though they recognise the scenes I have painted, even when they can’t possibly do so, and it is so thrilling that my paintings can elicit such a wonderful emotional response.

I hope you enjoy looking at my ‘paint babies’ as much as I enjoyed painting them!
