About the Artist:
I was born in Derby 1961, coming from an artistic family background but self taught. I always loved drawing since an early age. On leaving school, I went to work at Prinknash Abbey Pottery in Gloucestershire where I was trained in the art of gilding by the Benedictine monks, later becoming a ceramic artist and designer.
Over the years designing Royal commemoratives, dinner tableware, figurines and gilding for Royal Worcester. Always producing artwork in my spare time I have worked for many lOctober 23, 2017es Medici (London), whiskey decanters for Pointers of Edinburgh & London, Bertone in Italy and many more. My artwork has been published in this country and abroad as limited edition prints, greeting cards, puzzles, chopping boards and other merchandise.
My whole life I have loved many subjects which I have been lucky enough to have been able to portray in commissioned work, wildlife, marine, landscape and recently figurative. I have been very fortunate to have met and studied with great contemporary artists who have inspired me including the Victorian Pre-Raphaelites whose paintings I try to see in galleries wherever I can.
For the past seven years I have concentrated on figurative work. It all started when I saw an exhibition in Mayfair, London where I met Douglas Hoffman. From then on I wanted to aspire to his genius.
I started going to life drawing classes which were invaluable to my drawing skills regarding the anatomy of the human figure. Although my drawings are quite detailed and take days to complete I find life drawing invaluable discipline.
